Eco Preferred Content Calculation

Comcork Flooring product contains between a minimum of 29.8% of ground recycled cork particles by mass, the exact total dependent on end-colour and product type. Comcork Flooring’s Cork weight by mass represents 70% of the total tile by volume. Comcork Flooring EC content minimum - 29.8% by mass

Logic Australia utilise’s cork that is obtained from 100% recycled wine corks collected within Australia, in the manufacture of all Comcork Flooring products. The recycled wine corks are obtained through collection agreements that have been in place for over a decade from a variety of sources including Girl Guides Australia and Friends of the Zoo.

This product specification meets the EU > 20% Post-consumer recycled material requirement.

Modular flooring

Comcork Flooring is available in 4 series including the ‘standard’ 1000 Series as well as the ‘improved fire resistant’ 2000 Series.

The standard sheet size for all product series is 1800mm x 900mm. The product range is also available in a smaller tile format that measures 440mm x 440mm on request.

Comcork Flooring sheets must be laid in an Ashlar pattern, and should be laid end to end to ensure a close butt joint is achieved. The smaller tiles can be laid in a tile standard formation.

The tile size and method of laying the flooring dictates that Comcork materials are Modular in nature.

Designed for Disassembly

Comcork Flooring sheets & tiles can be returned to Logic after being removed from an installation if the client desires assuming the product is in a ‘fit’ state. If the product is in a fit state meaning all the adhesives and other surfaces contaminants have been removed it is then able to be reground, and the resultant regrind used as a raw material for future flooring production.

Logic Australia has purpose designed product into which the reground raw material can be used. Therefore 100% by mass of the Comcork Flooring tile is considered to be Designed for Disassembly and re-use assuming it is fit for purpose.

The Company EMS Includes:

Waste Minimisation

Waste minimisation is covered under 4.5.1, and 4.3.3 of Logic Australia’s Environmental Management System.

4.3.3 Target and objectives

Target waste generation is 0%.

4.5.1 Monitoring

Waste generation and recycled percentage is measured weekly.

Waste Policy:

Waste generated during the production process is, where possible 100% recycled back into subsequent product. Pre-vulcanized materials (off cuts) are reintroduced and recycled back into production. 100% of the installed product can be removed and recycled at the end of its useful life subject to the ‘Designed for Disassembly’ policy.

Continuous improvement techniques are employed at the production level to ensure waste generation levels are minimised.

Logic Australia’s range of Comcork flooring is specifically designed to minimize the generation of scrap material during its installation by the use of a tile format and its inherent modularity. This property reduces the amount of wastage in comparison to traditional rolls of flooring materials. Any waste generated during installation can be collected and returned to Logic Australia for recycling if deemed as fit for purpose.

Energy

Energy minimization is covered under 4.3.3 and 4.5.1

4.3.3 Target and objectives

Target energy reduction across the entire operation is 1% reduction per annum in real terms.

4.5.1 Monitoring

Energy consumption is measured quarterly.

Policy:

Logic Australia, through continuous improvement initiatives, does at all times, attempt to minimize energy consumption at both manufacturing and operational levels. This will be ensured by the continual implementation of best practice manufacturing techniques, and a maintenance program designed to ensure energy consumption levels of equipment and machinery remain at or below target levels.

Logic Australia has a commitment to the utilization of renewable or green energy sources and are currently investigating the best possible implementation.

Emissions

Emissions are covered under 4.5.1, of Logic Australia’s Environmental Management System.

4.5.1 Monitoring

Emissions, including air and water emission quality is measured quarterly by qualified external bodies.

Policy:

Logic Australia has specific plans in place to reduce emissions from the manufacturing process and strive to zero pollution.

Due to the nature of the product composition, Comcork Flooring is considered to be low in VOC emissions. No known Volatile Organic Components are incorporated in the product during the manufacturing process. The production process is free of all ozone depleting products.

Materials Minimization

Materials minimization is covered under 4.5.1, of Logic Australia’s Environmental Management System.

4.5.1 Monitoring

Packaging, cork and other raw material utilization is monitored monthly.

Policy:

Cork expands during the manufacturing process, ie, it gains volume to reduce the total amount of product used.

Logic Australia reduces raw material usage by continuous improvements in production, including the recycling of production waste into other products such as custom compounds for use by cricket & Hockey ball manufacturers and the alike.

Logic Australia has a policy of encouraging Eco packaging by continuing to specify recycled cardboard and pallet timbers as the preferred packaging method. Where possible, Logic Australia encourages its customers to return packaging materials for future recycling
